Merida is a dreamy wonderland that I can't wait to return to. We spent a handful of blissful days camped out under the blistering Yucatán sun, taking long naps in woven hammocks, eating mangoes fresh from the trees, and exploring the gorgeous, art-filled city.
Merida is a real Mexican town, with authentic residents just living their daily lives. Yes, there are some tourist activities, but for the most part this sleepy colonial town feels like a regular artsy town sprinkled with a few American and Canadian expats. The homestays are incredibly inexpensive. We stayed in a gorgeous hacienda, complete with a jaw-dropping pool, in the courtyard of a mansion that was fully renovated and lovingly restored by an award-winning interior design for -- get this -- $90 per night.
Sherry's home is truly gorgeous and I recommend it to anyone visiting the Yucatán. Her place is not alone, though! There are dozens of other adorable, colorful little B&Bs sprinkled around the downtown "Centro". Just check out some of these other listings.

Super romantic restaurant with traditional Yucatán fare and crazy good service. Beautiful waitresses, live music sometimes, killer cocktails, and a famous dish: Orden de Cochinita, a slow stew pork that's so flavorful & succulent you'll think you've died and gone to heaven
The best vibes were found in the main town square, a peaceful and bubbling place, where children wander freely and young couples kiss on benches and old people chat late into the night.
Go if you can, drink the dragonfruit margaritas at La Chaya Maya, and experience a bit of Yucatan bliss.
