Recently we worked with Shinola Detroit on the grand opening of their Portland store. In thinking of a creative cocktail for this beloved brand, I researched their history and the mindset behind their American-made goods. Locally-sourced ingredients are always a priority for me, but I wanted to put a unique spin on their drink because it needed to be truly in alignment with their values.
After a few iterations, I came up with the following cocktail, which features the best of the best of Portland products. We get our lavender from Sauvie Island Lavender Farm because it's super fresh and packs a ton of flavor. You don't need much to make a fragrant simple syrup.
Made in the USA:
Place sugar cube in old fashioned glass and saturate with bitters, add a dash of plain water. Muddle until dissolved. Place your ice cube inside the glass and add spirits. Garnish with lavender.
Afterwards we were thrilled to be able to select a few keepsakes, and after much deliberation narrowed down to the Runwell Coin Edge 3HD 38 mm watch with a navy dial and sunflower leather strap, and this gorgeous crossbody bag. They helped me monogram everything and were so patient as I made up my mind between several watch styles. The staff of the Portland store are friendly and helpful; I watched them guide several people through selecting a new watch.
As for the Accordion Crossbody Bag, well, it's such a treat. I love the way it feels against my body. The purse is handcrafted with simple, clean styling using Horween Essex leather, and designed to gain character with continued use. I love the nickel-plated brass snap closure and bold orange leather that goes with all of my vintagey outfits!
Thanks so much to Shinola for working with us, and we can't wait to bartend more of your parties in the near future.
